Lamar Advertising Company’s quarterly loss widened and revenue fell short of estimates, according to quarterly financials that were just released by the company. Hollywood Sign Threatened by Development
Friday, February 19th, 2010The landmark “HOLLYWOOD” sign in Los Angeles has been threatened by development of the property immediately surrounding the national icon.
The privately owned land that the sign sits in is in jeopardy of becoming a luxury home development – unless the Trust for Public Land can raise the money to buy the property and make it part of Griffith Park. They need to raise an additional $12.5 million by April 14th. (more…)

Clear Channel Outdoor Posts Second Quarter Loss
Saturday, November 21st, 2009Clear Channel Outdor posted a loss of $689.1 million for the second quarter of 2009, as opposed to a profit of $80.3 million in the same period of 2008. Of that loss, there was a $812.4 million impairment charge related to goodwill.
Revenue declined 24%, from $914.8 million in 2008 to $692.1 million in 2009. Analysts had expected revenue of $720.2 million.
Some of the adjustments were the result of the July, 2008 merger of Clear Channel Communications and Clear Channel Media Holdings.
JCDecaux Predicts 10% Decline in World Outdoor Markets
Saturday, November 21st, 2009JCDecaux, one of the world’s largest outdoor advertising companies, has predicted a 10% world-wide outdoor advertising revenue decline for 2009. “We should be around a 10% fall this year” said Charles DeCaux, the company’s co-CEO.
Another large French outdoor company, Publicis Group, also predicted a 8.5% decline for 2009, but predicted a 1.6% growth in ad spending for 2010.
Citigroup Upgrades JC Decaux To “Buy”
Saturday, November 21st, 2009Citigroup has upgraded French outdoor company JCDecaux to a “buy” from a “hold”, citing improved conditions for 2010.
Citigroup predicts an increase of 23% in earnings for 2010, and 14% for 2011. It notes that outdoor advertising is showing structural strength and improved geographic exposure, which will contribute to better performance beginning in 2010.
Clear Channel Outdoor Posts Third Quarter Loss
Saturday, November 21st, 2009Clear Channel Outdoor Holdings, Inc. reported a third quarter loss of $34.4 million, as revenue declined 19% from a year earlier to $660.6 million. In the same quarter last year, earnings were $9.1 million on revenue of $813.4 million.
